About the Vedic Astrology Calculator
Vedic astrology, known as Jyotish (the "science of light"), is one of the oldest astrological systems in the world, originating in ancient India over 5,000 years ago. Unlike Western astrology which uses the tropical zodiac, Vedic astrology uses the sidereal zodiac aligned with actual star constellations.
Our Vedic calculator provides authentic Jyotish calculations including: - **Nakshatra positions**: The 27 lunar mansions that provide deeper personality insights - **Vimshottari Dasha**: The planetary period system for predictive astrology - **Shadbala**: Planetary strength calculations - **Yogas**: Beneficial planetary combinations in your chart

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between Vedic and Western astrology?
The main difference is the zodiac used. Western astrology uses the tropical zodiac aligned with seasons and equinoxes. Vedic astrology uses the sidereal zodiac aligned with actual star positions. Due to precession, there is approximately 24 degrees difference, which can place planets in different signs.
What is a Nakshatra?
Nakshatras are the 27 lunar mansions or star clusters that the Moon travels through during its monthly cycle. Each Nakshatra spans 13°20' of the zodiac and has its own deity, symbol, and characteristics. Your Moon's Nakshatra is considered very important in Vedic astrology.
What is Vimshottari Dasha?
Vimshottari Dasha is the most widely used predictive system in Vedic astrology. It divides life into planetary periods (Mahadashas) based on the Moon's Nakshatra at birth. Each planet rules for a specific number of years (Sun 6, Moon 10, Mars 7, etc.), totaling 120 years.
What is ayanamsa?
Ayanamsa is the angular difference between the tropical and sidereal zodiacs, caused by Earth's axial precession. Different schools of Vedic astrology use slightly different ayanamsa values. Lahiri (also called Chitrapaksha) is the most widely used, especially in India.
