Fixed Stars in Astrology
Stellar Influences on Your Chart
Learn about the astrologically significant fixed stars — Regulus, Algol, Spica, and more. Understand how to interpret fixed stars when they conjunct natal planets.
What Are Fixed Stars in Astrology?
Fixed stars are the bright stars beyond our solar system that appear stationary relative to each other (unlike planets, which move). In astrology, when a fixed star closely conjuncts a natal planet or angle (within 1-2°), it adds its influence to that placement. The most influential are the 15 Behenian stars and the 4 Royal Stars.
The Four Royal Stars
| Star | Position (2025) | Nature | Keywords |
|---|---|---|---|
| Aldebaran | ~10° Gemini | Mars | Success through integrity, military honor |
| Regulus | ~0° Virgo | Jupiter/Mars | Fame, leadership, success (with a condition) |
| Antares | ~10° Sagittarius | Mars/Jupiter | Intensity, obsession, strong will |
| Fomalhaut | ~4° Pisces | Venus/Mercury | Idealism, poetic vision, mysticism |

Frequently Asked Questions
How close does a fixed star need to be to matter?
Use a 1° orb for fixed stars, 2° maximum for the brightest (like Regulus or Sirius). Only the conjunction is traditionally used, though some modern astrologers consider oppositions and squares.
Do fixed stars matter if none are conjunct my planets?
Fixed stars are additional layers — they enhance but aren't essential. If no stars closely conjunct your natal planets or angles, they simply don't play a major role in your chart. Focus on planets, signs, houses, and aspects first.
