Introduction to Horary Astrology

Answering Questions with Charts

Learn horary astrology — the art of answering specific questions by casting a chart for the moment the question is asked. Understand significators, houses, and traditional rules.

What Is Horary Astrology?

Horary astrology is a branch of traditional astrology used to answer specific questions. A chart is cast for the exact moment a question is understood and received by the astrologer. The positions of the planets at that moment are read to provide an answer.

How Horary Works

  • A specific, sincere question is formed (e.g., "Will I get the job?")
  • A chart is cast for the exact moment and location the question is received
  • The Ascendant ruler represents the querent (person asking)
  • The house ruling the topic determines the significator of the "quesited" (thing asked about)
  • Aspects between significators show whether the answer is yes or no
  • Applying aspects = things that will happen; separating = things past

Frequently Asked Questions

Can horary really answer questions?

Horary has been used for over 1,500 years with reported success. It follows strict rules that reduce subjective interpretation. Whether it works through cosmic mechanics, synchronicity, or astrologer intuition is debated, but many practitioners find it remarkably accurate for concrete questions.

What makes a good horary question?

Good horary questions are specific, sincere, and about something you genuinely need to know. "Will I get the job at Company X?" is good. "Will I ever be happy?" is too vague. The question should have a clear yes/no or this/that answer.
