Midpoints in Astrology
Hidden Planetary Connections
Learn about midpoints — the halfway point between two planets that creates a sensitive point in your chart. Understand the midpoint tree and how to use Zodisphere's Midpoints Panel.
What Are Midpoints?
A midpoint is the zodiacal point exactly halfway between two planets. When a third planet or angle conjuncts a midpoint (or forms a hard aspect to it), it activates the combined energy of both planets. Midpoints reveal hidden connections that standard aspects don't show.
The Most Important Midpoints
- Sun/Moon midpoint — The most significant. Represents the integration of masculine/feminine, conscious/unconscious. Planets here are deeply personal.
- Venus/Mars midpoint — Sexuality, desire, and romantic expression. Planets here strongly affect relationships.
- ASC/MC midpoint — The intersection of personal identity and public role. Planets here are core to your life expression.
- Jupiter/Saturn midpoint — The balance of expansion and contraction. Planets here shape your approach to growth and structure.
Reading the Midpoint Tree
Zodisphere's Midpoints Panel shows a "midpoint tree" — each planet listed with all midpoints that contact it. The most active planets (those appearing at many midpoints) are especially powerful in the chart.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are midpoints the same as Arabic Parts?
No. Midpoints are the halfway point between two planets. Arabic Parts (Lots) use a formula involving three points (usually ASC + Planet A - Planet B). They're related concepts but different techniques.
Which midpoint system should I use — 360° or 90° dial?
The 90° dial combines conjunctions, squares, and oppositions into one view. It's more compact but can be harder to read. Start with the 360° view (standard zodiac) and try the 90° dial as you gain experience.
